From Addiction to Freedom: Dallas's Story of Gospel Transformation
What does lasting change look like for someone enslaved to addiction?
In this episode of The Nehemiah Project Podcast, Mike sits down with Dallas, Director of the Transformation House, to hear his personal story of addiction, enslavement, recovery, and ultimately transformation through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Dallas speaks candidly about the progression of addiction—from initially pursuing drugs for pleasure, escape, or a high to eventually becoming physically dependent on them simply to feel normal and function from day to day.
The conversation also explores a biblical understanding of addiction. Addiction is more than a substance problem. Beneath the behavior are desires of the heart—things we look to for satisfaction, escape, comfort, identity, or control. Scripture helps us understand how those desires can become idolatrous and enslaving, while also recognizing the very real physical effects and dependence associated with substance abuse.
But Dallas’s story is ultimately not about addiction.
It is about the grace of God.
Through the gospel of Jesus Christ, Dallas experienced forgiveness, freedom, and a completely new direction for his life. Today, he serves as the Director of The Transformation House, helping other men who are walking through many of the same struggles he once experienced.
What Is the Transformation House?
The Transformation House is a Christ-centered men’s sober living home operated by The Nehemiah Project.
It exists to provide men with a clean, structured, accountable environment where they can pursue sobriety, biblical counseling, discipleship, Christian community, and lasting transformation.
The program is designed for men 18 and older who are employed and serious about change. It can also serve as a structured next step for men transitioning out of residential addiction treatment.
Residents receive housing, biblical counseling and discipleship, structured accountability, a gym membership, and involvement in a local Christian community.
The goal is not simply to help men remain sober.
Our desire is to see men experience genuine transformation through the saving and sanctifying grace of Jesus Christ.
