The Nehemiah Project Podcast

What is Truth?

Episode Summary

Many people in todays world think that truth is relative to the circumstances—that what is true for one situation is not necessarily true for others. This means that truth for one person is not necessarily the same for everyone! If this is correct, how can we know with certainty what to believe and how we should live? This begs the question, IS there even a way to live that should be sought after? Should all people strive towards an objective standard or is everyone free to live as they feel? Is Morality something that can be defined by oneself or is there an external standard that individuals will be held accountable to? Almost 2,000 years ago, a Roman governor named Pontius Pilate asked a wrongly accused prisoner who stood before him, “What is truth?”. The prisoner was Jesus of Nazareth (John 18:37-38). There is no record of Jesus answering Pilate on that particular occasion, but Jesus did answer answer that question in many places in the Scriptures. Two very explicit examples are found in the Gospel according to John: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” (John 17:17) In referencing the truth, Winston Churchill once stated, “Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.” Todays Podcast is a deep dive into the topic of Truth.
